THE SVK SLATE ROOF EXPERIENCE

History

Founded in 1905, Léon Scheerders and his wife Camilla van Kerchove established a coal business in Sint-Niklaas. Their coal business boomed during the winter months but was stagnant during the hotter seasons. In order to overcome the business slump in the off-peak seasons, they were able to manufacture the first bricks, tiles, and pipes. It was only during 1923 that SVK began to reproduce fibre cement products, which included fibre cement bricks. WIth thorough research and innovation, SVK developed lines of products that matched the changing times and demands of those in the industry. Fire retardant, low maintenance, versatile, and weather resistant fibre cement slates were then created and further elevated to address aesthetic concerns. Now, fibre cement slates are available in a wide spectrum of colours and shapes, making SVK truly a pioneer in the cement industry.

What is Fibre Cement?

Fibre cement is a composite material composed of Portland cement (limestone, iron, and clay), sand, and sustainably sourced cellulose fibers used to reinforce the material and improve its longevity. Finally, water is utilized to bind these components together and harden the fiber cement. A minor amount of chemical additives is also introduced to help with the process and increase the material’s strength. Fibre-cement products are widely used across the construction sectors, which include the industrial, agricultural, domestic, and residential buildings. The main usages include roofing and property cladding.

What are the advantages of Fibre Cement Slates?

Fire- Resistant and Non-combustible

Passing the high and strict Australian standards, Fibre cement slates are non-combustible or not prone to burning and do not contribute to the spread of fire. SVK values not only the aesthetics and strength of their products. They also value the safety and security of the people who reside in the homes using their products.

Robust

The addition of fibre to cement increases the tensile strength of the material. Tensile strength is the ability of a  material to withstand a certain amount of force that rips it apart.

Versatility

Fibre cement has endless application and finishing options. It can meet all your design requisites to create projects that are impressive and memorable.

Longevity and Durability

Fibre cement lasts for over 50 years without quality compromise. It is the best cost-effective solution for your projects and applications. Fibre cement is very resilient. It resists mould, decay, moss, and algae and provides a high functionality since it does not warp, shrink, or easily crack under thermal pressure. Its properties do not change as it ages.

Sustainable and Eco-friendly

Fibre cement is very sustainable. Due to the changing times and environmental situations, people are looking for more green solutions for their construction projects. Low levels of energy and minimal processes are required in the manufacturing, installation, transportation, and recycling of fibre cement.

Thermal and Sound insulation

Fibre cement provides excellent acoustic and thermal insulation. Fibre cement has a very low heat conductivity, making it a very effective insulator. This enables properties to maintain a constant and pleasant temperature even during winter and summer.

Value for Money

This is one of the more affordable options of materials for roofing. Its lower price range does not mean lower quality. It offers the same strength, durability, resistance, and sustainability of other roofing materials without the stress on the pocket.

Weatherability

Fibre cement slates provide excellent weather resistance due to their amazing ability to repel water. Furthermore, when exposed to sunshine, fibre cement slates are completely resistant to UV rays, with no chance of fading, discoloration, or damage. This is absolutely perfect for the different Australian climate and terrains.

Low Maintenance and Easy Installation

Fibre cement is resistant to a lot of external and environmental factors. It does not need to be tediously maintained to keep its quality and appearance. A periodic quick washdown with water is sufficient to rid your roof of dirt, dust, and other debris. Annual checks are recommended so that all damages are immediately addressed. Fibre cement slates are lightweight and fairly easy to transport and install.

How Long Does Fibre Cement Last?

The durability of fiber cement slates will be comparable to that of cement tiles. While most manufacturers provide a 30-year warranty, its lifespan extends up to 60 years if cared for properly.

How Much Does Fibre Cement Slate Cost?

Average Fibre Cement Slate installations can go as high as $30,000 depending on the roof’s slope, size, and shape of the property’s roof. Each square foot may cost from $10 to $20 per square foot.
